Find your signature fragrance

To identify your signature scent, you have to be aware of how a perfume is built. A perfume goes through three phases, which all will affect your mind and impression of the fragrance.

Man tar på parfym

Top note

A light and fresh scent, often floral or citrus notes. The top note usually lasts for 10-15 minutes.

Heart note

A deeper scent that adjusts to your own body scent. It is the heart note that determines how the perfume will smell on your skin. The heart note last for 2-4 hours.

Base note

Often mixed elements of woods or other strong scents such as amber. This note is the note you will smell the longest on your skin. The base note lasts for at least 6 hours.

When trying out a new fragrance, you often spray it on a piece of paper or straight out i the air, afterwards you smell it and decide whether you like it or not. If you do so you will sense the top note only, and it mostly consits of floral and citrus notes. For the first 15 minutes it can be difficult to be able to understand what you really smelled. After 15 minutes the heart note comes through and after further 2-4 hours waiting the base note breaks through.

If you don't try the fragrance on your own skin it could be a bit misleading. That is because all people have different kind of pH-value. So the fragrance can smell entirely different form person to person. Therefore, it is really important to try on your own skin instead of a piece paper.

When you are selecting your signature fragrance, look for something that you like, that also will complete and match your personality. Do not choose a fragrance because you want a certain scent, because it is a special brand or a particular designer. Trust your instincts. The fragrance is something you wear, just like clothes or an accessory, it often tells the world who you are or how you want to be perceived.
